March, 2023: wind farm tour – Coolcappa & Kilcolman NS

We would like to thank all the teachers and students who joined us for a tour of our operational wind farm.

The 4th – 6th class students viewed the turbines up close and they received a talk about climate change and renewable energy from our ecology team and Dr. Susan Byrne who is the Community Liaison Officer for Ballynisky Green Energy. Susan’s qualifications include a PHD in measuring community greenhouse gas and a BSc in Environmental Science.

They then took time to explore the inner workings of turbines and learned about the technology that generates clean electricity. Inside the turbine we showed them the dashboards that show how much electricity is being produced at that moment in time and how much electricity has been produced since the turbine first became operational.

The junior classes joined us for a bug hunt and ecology lesson around the windfarm site.

February, 2023: Wind energy news

As part of our initial engagement with the surrounding community, we will:

  • Distribute leaflets to residents in the local community area with key information
  • Have direct engagement with political representatives and local community groups to introduce the project and the team.
  • Have direct conversations with residents who requested a face-to-face meeting in the area and continue to be available for home visits for those interested in talking to us about the project.
  • Engage with media to highlight the beginning of the consultation and raise awareness of the project
